The concept of Kenzo, which means “healthy child” in Japanese, was initiated in Kenya in 2018 by two longtime friends, Fredrick Musita and Johannes Stroh-Berger. Their idea was to create a charming and cozy space that embraces the African spirit while providing all the comforts of the Western world.
In order to capture the essence of Africa, 95% of Kenzo’s construction materials were sourced locally. From the metalwork made in Kenya to the white cement from Sinai, and the wood from Tanzania, every element of Kenzo reflects the beauty of African craftsmanship. Even the artwork is created by talented artisans from Kenya and other East African countries. The pool tiles were specially imported from South Africa. The goal was to build Kenzo with a strong commitment to cleanliness, health, and ethical standards, while ensuring fair wages for the workers. Only a few items needed to be imported, as the founders aimed to demonstrate that it is not always necessary to rely on products from China or India.
